Water Closet Improvements

Nothing like a coat of paint and some floating shelves to add visual interest to a boring water closet! This wasn’t a high priority project on the list of all the updates we wanted to do to the house, but it was a super easy one to tackle, so we knocked it out early on.

We started by dusting and cleaning the space, then I got to painting. We opted not to remove the toilet, as we didn’t want to mess with the plumbing or the seals. Instead, I removed the top of the toilet tank and put a plastic trash bag over the toilet to help protect it. Painting was done with a combination of a 2″ angle brush for cutting in, and a roller. Luckily for me, the roller was able to fit behind the toilet tank to get more of the wall back there!

The shelves we purchased were unfinished, and I loved the look, so we just sealed them with a clear coat for protection. My husband then hung them on the wall while I stood behind him saying encouraging things like, “a little higher. Nope, now lower. What if I change my mind after they’re hung?”

I added some simple decor to the shelves, but honestly, it’s still pretty bare so I hope to collect some larger pieces to put on that top shelf!
